My wife was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago and was treated at The Christie Hospital in Manchester.
The Christie is the largest single site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients a year. They are also the first UK centre to be officially accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre. As part of the NHS they provide:
Radiotherapy, in one of the world's largest radiotherapy departments and at our satellite radiotherapy centres in Oldham and Salford
Chemotherapy, in the UK's largest chemotherapy unit, as well as via 10 other sites, a mobile chemotherapy unit and in patients’ homes
Highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer. Click here to find out more about surgery at The Christie.
A wide range of support and diagnostic services
Having seen the wonderful dedication and service the hospital provides to its patients, I decided I had to give something back on my wife’s behalf and since then I have raised £5,742.15 by participating in various bike rides and this year, my first ever 10k run (my hardest challenge yet, even harder than the 100 mile bike rides!!).
This year I have taken part in 4 bike rides (still 1 to go in September) and the Great Manchester 10k run. I am hoping to raise £1,000 and currently my donations are at £890.
So far, I have taken part in:
The Tour de Manc 100k Bike Ride
The Tour de Tendring 60 mile Bike Ride
Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run 10k
Manchester to Blackpool 60 mile Bike Ride
and still to come in September, The Manchester 100k Bike Ride
So please donate whatever you can to help me achieve my target, it will be greatly appreciated as The Christie is understandably a place close to my heart having treated my wife and a few other family members and friends.
